2021 Pelican Women’s Championship

Last updated on January 8, 2022

The inaugural Pelican LPGA Women’s Championship took place at the Pelican Golf Club. Last November and was held devoid of spectators due to COVID-19. Which was a disappointment for many including myself.

With 2020 behind us and the worst of Covid 19 is in the rearview mirror. Earlier this year, the Players Championship in Northeast Florida had the most spectators for any event A LPGA Women’s Championship averages 60k spectators at each event. Hopefully, the Pelican Women’s Championship with do likewise.

The 2021 Pelican Women’s Championship starts Monday, November 8, and runs through Sunday, November 14. The Pelican golf course is beehive of activity and I’m sure the course is in championship condition.

At last year’s spectator-free event, the Pelican Golf Club offered residents having homes bordering the golf course. A one-day pass to the LPGA event. Just wondering, did any residents receive one for this year’s event? As of yet, we haven’t received our invite.

Update: Received a letter from the 2021 Pelican Women's Championship. Saying “As token of our appreciation we would like to extend the invitation to join us at the Pelican Golf Club offering four (4) weekly passes to this year’s tournament.” As a resident of Belleair I’d like to say thank you!

While the Town of Belleair is involved with permitting, public safety, and communications, this is not a town-sponsored event. However, the town’s website still has a direct link taking you to WWW.pelicanlpga.com, allowing you to purchase tickets to the event. Weekly admission ranges from $25.00 to $2000 per person for admission to the Champions Club.

Belleair’s LPGA Ad Hoc Committee, comprised of Belleair residents along with Belleair Commissioners, said they’d ensure this event has the best interest of Belleair’s residents in mind. Therefore, the attendee’s parking will be outside Belleair, keeping traffic impact for residents negligible.

Parking locations include Seasons Belleair Memory and the American Collegiate Academy in Clearwater and bused to the clubhouse via Ponce De Leon Blvd.

Nevertheless, on-street parking is allowed on Pineland Ave, as is event parking on Golf View Dr, the section that borders the Pelican. In addition, guests can park on Cypress Ave to Poinsettia Rd. Four blocks of Pinellas Rd West of the clubhouse will also be designated event parking. It appears four blocks of Ponce De Leon Blvd and most of Poinsettia Rd will be no parking zones. Used for dropping off, ride-share, golfers, and general operation for the Pelican event. I believe these regulations will be in effect from November 5 to the 16th.

Despite the town denying any sponsorship I’m sure we’ll see many of the town’s resources being used. Supposedly the town is being reimbursed but will we see exactly what those reimbursements will be?

In addition, Pinellas Road is being used for tournament parking but has anyone looked at that road lately? Yes, a good section of it is under construction. Will the construction be stopped/delayed because of the tournament? I sure hope the folks at Outlyr know what they’re doing. They appear to be a rather small operation.
