2nd Annual Pelican Women’s Championship

Last year after a 40-year pause, the Pelican Golf Club of Belleair, Fl., an LPGA tournament, returned to the Bay area. Thanks to the Doyle’s of Belleair, Florida. They transformed the old Belleview Biltmore Golf Club to the Pelican Golf Club, a world-class championship course.

 

The Pelican Golf Club’s new owners planned carefully and spent lavishly. Their business expertise and numerous connections persuaded the LPGA to schedule the 2020 inaugural Pelican Women’s Championship at the 1-year-old Pelican Golf Club. A triumph of great difficulty and a considerable achievement.

 

Sadly, Covid made the 2020 inaugural Pelican Women’s Championship a non-spectator event. With approximately 500 people in attendance.

 

The 2nd annual Pelican Women’s Championship was anything but a non-spectator event. TamaBay.com anticipated roughly 50,000 spectators would attend throughout the six-day event.

 

If this was the case, the only increase in traffic was on the golf course. For me, it was indeed a pleasure. Observing spectators from all walks of life enjoy professional golfers practicing their craft.

 

The 2nd annual Pelican Women’s Championship took place from November 8-14. With 144 players competing for $1.75 million in prize money.

 

Starting with Monday’s practice rounds to Sunday’s four-person playoff. Between Korda, Thompson, Lydia Ko, and Sei Young Kim.

 

Three LPGA professionals are driving off with a Lamborghinis. A first for professional golf at any level.

 

Not sure but a first for me. The three Para-Commandos jumped into Pelican Golf Club and presented the LPGA Pelican Women’s championship trophies.

 

Pelican Golf Club and its Pelican Women’s Championship provided all spectators a fan-friendly experience on a truly scenic golf course in Florida. A success from start to finish.

 

So successful and effective. The LPGA announced today a multi-year extension to host the championship at Pelican Golf Club through 2025. In addition, beginning with the 2022 Pelican Women’s Championship, the purse will increase to $2 million.

 

A major championship like the 2021 Pelican Women’s Championship clearly benefits Belleair with direct exposure promotes neighboring communities with the economic impact.
