Mehlenbacher Road Sidewalk and Drainage Improvements Project.
Here’s a link to Mehlenbacher Rd Project ID# 001976A with Public Works Transportation Engineering drawings. Not a lot of progress!
The project was to be completed in the summer of 2019 and has changed a few times. Construction ending Spring 2020 and Summer of 2020. After all these delays. It's now scheduled to be completed in November 2021. Time to start pouring some concrete!
Project Overview
Construction for the long-awaited Pinellas County Project ID# 001976A has finally started. The first stage is vertical boring. Its already begun installing cables, pipes, and utility lines. Then ADA-compliant sidewalks, curb ramps, driveways, and drainage improvements, reduce flooding and inflow into the sewer system.
The project site will be on the north side of Mehlenbacher Road, from Indian Rocks Road to the Pinellas Trail. This project is a Pinellas County Public Works Capital Improvements Program without financial assistance from the Town of Belleair.
Project Description
According to John Carpenter, P.E. Project Manager. The project description encompasses much-needed drainage enhancements and improvements, new ADA sidewalks, curb ramps, and driveways and aprons.
The proposed sidewalks will be constructed on the north side of the drainage ditch on Mehlenbacher. The proposed sidewalks will run through our driveways, just like the existing sidewalks on the south of Mehlenbacher Road in Largo. Both our concrete driveway aprons will be reconstructed from the pavement’s edge to the back of the sidewalk.
Mr. Carpenter also said the project would improve the sight distance at the Pineland Avenue and Mehlenbacher Road intersection. Making for a safer exit onto Mehlenbacher. A great idea!
From the northern shoulder/pavement of Mehlenbacher’s 19 feet, the project will utilize 19 feet of county property. In front of the homes between 632 to 668 Mehlenbacher Rd in Belleair.
I, for one, will be jumping up and down or a least a little fist bumping!
Change comes with pros and cons, and the project will use its right to 19 feet of county easement Right of Way road. That may upset someone.
But from where I stand, other than a few months of construction dust and commotion. The county easement Right of Way in front of our home was dangerous, unsightly, and nothing more than an out-and-out sewer.
Safely wise.
The road project is the best thing that’s happened to this 1000-foot section of Mehlenbacher Pinellas County Right of Way Rd!
It will be a treat not to slush around in waist-high polluted sewer water, unplug an overflowing culvert, or get our landscaping washed away every 5 or 6 years. Not to mention no longer play dodge car on trash days!
Will your driveway be removed?
Yes just not sure how much?
When….when? County used original funds for something else. Why did this get postponed??
