Financially Belleair Won’t Benefit from LPGA Tournament
Financially the Town of Belleair won’t benefit by hosting the Pelican Golf Club LPGA Tournament. Nor will the majority of Belleair’s residents. Either will Belleair’s limited commercial businesses. LPGA Tournament will have little to no immediate upside for the majority of our residents. Other than Belleair getting wide-reaching recognition. Any upside will be long-term.
Therefore, hosting a Pelican Golf Club LPGA Tournament isn’t of great consequence to most Belleair residents?
Although if Belleair’s elected officials decided all residents. Should receive identical deliberation and attention when requesting changes to current ordinances. The ordinance banning short-term rentals must be objectively reevaluated and compared to the new ordinance Sec. 74-87. – Golf club cottages. Then impartially judged and evaluate against the ordinance banning short-term rentals. A logical person would conclude the banning of short-term rentals ordinance must be overturned or revised.
As for any STR issues, I’m sure if Belleair can control a crowd of 50 thousand golf fans. They’d have no difficulty overseeing a hand full of short-term rentals in one of the vigilant and safest towns around. Making things fairer. It would allow some residents to make a couple of extra bucks.
Remember, not every Belleair household’s median income is six figures.
Just like Belleair allowed the Pelican golf club to do. By allowing them to build three cottages on Indian Rocks Road. With 12 rooms in each cottage for a total of 36 short-term rentals. Cottages are for the use of club members and their guests and according to the Pelicans lawyer. The maximum length of stay is one week. If these aren’t short-term rentals. What are they? A hotel?
The cottages weren’t in the original sales agreement, and Belleair along with the Doyles. Agreed, no housing on the golf course, yet elected officials permitted Pelican not only to build housing. But build housing for short-term rentals. For some residents, this behavior. Continued to demonstrate conscious or unconscious cronyism between Belleair officials and the Pelican Golf Club.
With as many 60-70 thousand golf fans turning up for an LPGA tournament. Combined with a $25 million economic windfall for the area.
Hosting an LPGA Tournament is truly a big deal of great consequence.
Just not Belleair! Instead, Belleair residents are stuck dealing with detours, parking complications, an influx of visitors, and lots of traffic? Which is ironic. Considering Belleair officials and residents alike. Complained constantly about outside traffic. Spending millions of tax dollars, attempting to curtail it!
Belleair residents could see a financial gain with STRs. However, only if the officials of Belleair, the biggest little town, do the right thing. For the right reason.
Come on, guys, before all the meats gone, throw us a bone?
I agree with you Brandy. I have nothing to add as you have put it so well. I will however, as you said, remind Belleair that not all residents make six figures.
