Belleair Please Use E-blast Text Email to Alert Residents

Last updated on July 10, 2021

I’m sure this isn’t done intentionally to curtailed voter’s involvement or out of political ignorance. Nevertheless, I got zippo alerts regarding town meetings. Or topics that would make residents keep talking about, start asking questions, and get more involved.

The Town of Belleair’s home page. For years now has had a notice “WEBSITE UNDER RENOVATION” “currently under renovation to improve accessibility for users with disabilities. The “Public Notices” link takes you to We’re sorry, but there isn’t a web page matching your entry.

Click on Agendas & Minutes; it goes to Search Belleair’s agendas and minutes now. It takes you off-site. To a third-party website. Legistar – Granicus is fine and used by hundreds of state and local governments. With minutes, town commission – board meetings, etc. It claims to optimize accessibility and transparency. However, it’s a very user’s unfriendly page, and with a 133-page user guide, a computer-science degree is helpful!

If you register for a general Town of Belleair e-blasts, it takes you to a form on a landing page. Saying “Subscribe to List” to be registered to receive a minimum number of essential emails from the Town (expected average of 1 email per month). Their using mailchimp.com software – mailchimp.com program continues to be exploited and hijacked.

As routine as it is to say, “don’t judge a book by its cover,” websites are a portrayal of what they represent and immediately influence perceptions.

One would think of a town with the resources of Belleair. Would want to offer the residents and visitors the best possible experience.
