Belleair Residents Attempt to Improve Appearances of Sidewalks & Driveways

Last updated on March 11, 2022

Belleair said streets such as Pineland Ave, Golf View Drive, and others streets. That doesn’t have sidewalks. Homeowners can install pavers out to the street. What happens if Belleair chooses to install sidewalks there? Will homeowners be forced to allow the town to remove pavers and replace them with concrete slab sidewalks?

Commissioner Coleen Chaney sided with property owner’s rights and those who want to replace sidewalks in their driveways with pavers. “I don’t like taking the option away from homeowners,” Chaney said. “I think pavers are beautiful. She urged homeowner responsibility. A rational view and a correct one.

In addition to property owner’s rights, Belleair’s view on Concrete vs. pavers may not be 100%? https://www.fixr.com/comparisons/pavers-vs-concrete.

Concrete slabs are more prone to splitting and cracking. When it comes to durability, pavers tend to be more flexible. Pavers are four times as strong as a typical concrete slab, which means they can handle four times as much weight on their surface before they crack. Pavers are generally easy to clean but not as easy as Concrete since they are not a single slab. Pavers repairs can be repaired on top or even under the paver in question. Repairs to cracked Concrete are harder and must be removed, and then a new slab is laid.

Concrete does last for many years, as do pavers. But in most cases. Concrete driveways/sidewalks aren’t as appealing to the eye. Concrete slabs are generally more common, but pavers will net you more value over time because Concrete is expensive to replace.

Has anyone driven down Palmetto Drive lately? It’s beautiful. A suitable cambered roadway. Newer curbs with stormwater management, wide easy access driveways. Sone with pavers. Well-maintained sidewalks, with lovely, landscaped areas between sidewalks and streets. Some sections have well-landscaped medians. Which the town owns and maintains. Best of all, the streets have those classic streetlights. I’d love for my street to look half as good. Heck, I’d love to have a sidewalk!
