Belleair’s Nice Person of the Month
The Nice Person of the Month challenge goes to Mr. John J. Osborne, who lived in Belleair for many years—a gentleman who few seemed to know Mr. Osborne, was committed to his principles and tried to do what he thought was right.
My wife claims to have spoken with him several times while walking the dogs until he passed away on Nov 15, 2012, at 79. Leaving his home and nearly 4 million in stocks to the Town of Belleair.Over the years, many people from Henry Plant, Morton Plant, and currently the Doyle family shaped Belleair’s history.
But some never get the recognition they deserve. Like John Osborne, one of those who should be acknowledged and appreciated more often. As a result of his humanitarianism through Belleair, a town he loved.
He was born in Troy, New York. He was 79 years of age when he passed. Mr. Osborne served in the US Army during the Korean conflict. He worked for the State of New York as a bank examiner. Sadly, I could find a photo of him without a funeral service.
Belleair officials talk about turning his property into the 20th park in the community. This guy deserves a yearly parade.
Not sure about his properties?
But, his $3.5 million-plus tax-free dollars gift allowed Belleair to purchase the Belleview Biltmore Golf club. Why didn’t they rename the Belleview Biltmore Golf Club, previously known as the Pelican Golf Club, now renamed Pelican Golf Club? John J. Osborne municipal golf course?
