Pelican Golf Club Lovely Landscaping – Good Employers.

Last updated on November 21, 2020

Our Northeast rear window’s view has improved. Our Northwest vista isn’t anything special. I presume, due to reconfiguring the 16th tee? Our due North landscape currently isn’t anything to write home about. Partially obstructed with 3 or 4 saw palmettos. That wasn’t noticeable growing several feet during the four years of construction.

In April, when the Pelican Women’s Championship event was still ago. Pelican maintenance crews trimmed the saw palmettos and removed dead branches making the area suitable for the LPGA event.

I’m no arborist, but there’s a tree to our Northeast. That seen better days. To the left of the palm is my favorite tree. Its like a big bonsai tree. It has been almost the same size for two decades. The tree was also the home to a semi-domesticated feral cat for several years. We even took him to the vet a few times.

As for being good, employers, I can’t say one way or another.

As for being good neighbors. There’s room for improvement, and much of the responsibility falls directly on our Belleair commissioner’s shoulders.

In Feb of 2016. Before the sale was approved, Mayor Katica said. “people who bought their homes on the golf course have as much right to have that wonderful view of the rolling hills as someone who bought waterfront property has the right to that view.”

Mayor Katica later said he was going to contact (phone/mail/in person?) all homes on the golf course. I guess to get feedback? I never received anything from Belleair about the Pelican project.

Other than a letter four years later saying Dear Neighbor…promoting the LPGA event from the Town of Belleair. Signed Sincerely, The Town of Belleair Commission.

With approximately 75/80 homes were bordering the property. Belleair’s absence of transparency and their unresponsiveness to the community as a whole. Has made things like this continue to disappoint residents’ years after the sale and into the future!

I guess we’re better off than some residents? Who lives around the Pelican and claims the club’s perimeter is impeding their view or would eventually obstruct their views? I feel their pain, and I blame how Belleair handled the sale.

I had the good fortune to know Mr. Michael Heisley and became his on-call point person/ADC whenever his boats were piloted to a new location, Mr. Heisley, a reluctant boater but an avid golfer. Would ask me to go to whatever marina. Meet the captain and/boat and make sure everything was ready and good to go!

Because of Mr. Heisley’s generosity. I’ve attended the Masters in Augusta, spent time at Ocean Reef Club, stayed at his Kiawah Island Golf Resort home.

After purchasing his Jupiter home, I got to visit his golf clubs. They included Medalist Golf Club, Loblolly Pines Golf Club in Hobe Sound, and the Bear’s Club, and experiences second to none.

Ironically, after enjoying some of the world’s best golf courses. It’s very likely the only way I’ll get to see the Pelican Clubhouse. Would be a member of the wait staff!

If I never get to see the inside of the Pelican’s Clubhouse, their Performing Arts Center That’s just another “It Is What It Is thing!”

I’m still thankful for the blessed life I’ve had. And every so often. I swear I see Mr. Heisley teeing it up!

I began writing this before I noticed the Pelican “no trespassing” signs. I guess the reality is that nuisance neighbors can come in many shapes and sizes.  Just another way the Town of Belleair and Belleair commissioners frustrate and upset residents. Years after, what many believe was a sweetheart sale.
